About the EXPORT Center
MISSION
The mission of the Oklahoma Native American EXPORT
Center is to promote health and reduce health disparities in the Native
American population. The Center will conduct research, provide training,
disseminate health information, and reach out to Native American
communities. Primary
health disparities to be addressed are diabetes
and obesity.
GOALS
The Center established partnerships
with Native American communities to achieve the following goals:
1.
Conduct research in
epidemiology, intervention and prevention of
diabetes and obesity.
2.
Increase the participation
of Native Americans in the health professions by providing additional
opportunities and better training to Native American students.
3.
Reach out to Native
American communities to disseminate health information, particularly on
obesity and diabetes.
SPONSOR
The National
Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, which is part
of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, sponsored
and funded the EXPORT
Center.
