Four Corners small Diabetes Prevention Conference:

Together with the IHS, the EXPORT Center co-hosted a national conference on Reducing Health Disparities in American Indian and Alaska Natives by Preventing Diabetes Throughout the Life Cycle, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, August 21 – 24, 2006. About the EXPORT Center

 

Callesshield  MISSION

 

The mission of the Oklahoma Native American EXPORT Center is to promote health and reduce health disparities in the Native American population. The Center will conduct research, provide training, disseminate health information, and reach out to Native American communities.  Primary health disparities to be addressed are diabetes and obesity.

The Center established partnerships with Native American communities to achieve the following goals:

 

1.      Conduct research in epidemiology, intervention and prevention of diabetes and obesity.

2.      Increase the participation of Native Americans in the health professions by providing additional opportunities and better training to Native American students.

3.      Reach out to Native American communities to disseminate health information, particularly on obesity and diabetes.

 The National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, which is part of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, sponsored and funded the EXPORT Center.
